About the Journal

The Journal of Contemporary Social Research is a peer-reviewed publication of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Kogi State University, Anyigba, Nigeria. It provides a scholarly platform for original research articles, critical reviews, and academic debates in sociology, political science, economics, geography, mass communication, psychology, and related fields.

The journal publishes both empirical and theoretical studies that engage with contemporary issues in Nigeria, Africa, and the wider global arena. It serves as a valuable resource for academics, policymakers, and practitioners seeking knowledge and innovative approaches to pressing social challenges.

Available in both print and electronic formats, the journal operates as a fully Open Access publication. The Journal of Contemporary Social Research (JCSR) is a peer-reviewed publication of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Kogi State University, Anyigba, Nigeria.
It provides a scholarly platform for the dissemination of original research articles, critical reviews, and academic debates in Sociology, Political Science, Economics, Geography, Mass Communication, Psychology, and other related fields.

The Editorial Board of JCSR invites scholars, researchers, and practitioners to submit high-quality, original manuscripts for publication in its forthcoming issues. The journal serves as a medium for advancing scholarship, critical inquiry, and informed discussions on contemporary social issues shaping Nigeria, Africa, and the wider global community.

The Journal of Contemporary Social Research is currently indexed in reputable academic databases such as Google Scholar, OpenAIRE, Zenodo, CrossRef, and PKP.
All submitted manuscripts will be screened for originality using Turnitin before the peer-review process.
Each published article is assigned a unique DOI (Digital Object Identifier) to enhance visibility, accessibility, and ease of citation.

Scope and Focus Areas

JCSR welcomes theoretical, empirical, and applied research papers in the following disciplines:

  • Geography: Environmental change, land use, population studies, urbanization, climate impacts, and human–environment interactions.
  • Mass Communication: Media influence, digital communication, information society, journalism and democracy, and cultural studies.
  • Sociology: Social change, inequality, gender, health, community studies, crime, and deviance.
  • Economics: Development economics, poverty reduction, industrialization, trade, finance, agricultural economics, and public policy.
  • Political Science: Governance, public administration, democracy, electoral systems, peace and conflict studies, and international relations.
  • Psychology: Behavioural studies, social psychology, mental health, and human development.

Cross-Cutting Themes

Special consideration will be given to manuscripts addressing interdisciplinary and emerging themes such as:

  • Climate change, sustainability, and human development
  • Digital transformation and society
  • Governance, democracy, and security in Africa
  • Gender and youth in socio-economic development
  • Migration, urbanization, and population dynamics
  • Poverty, inequality, and social justice
  • Indigenous knowledge systems and modernization

Submission Guidelines

  • Manuscripts must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration elsewhere.
  • Articles should conform to the APA (7th Edition) referencing style.
  • Length: 5,000–8,000 words (including references).
  • Each submission must include:
    • An abstract of 150–250 words
    • 4–6 keywords
  • Submissions must be in Microsoft Word format (.doc or .docx).

 

Publication Fees

  • Assessment Fee: ₦6,000 (non-refundable, payable upon submission)
  •  Article Processing Charge (APC): ₦25,000 (payable upon acceptance for publication)

Publication Frequency

The Journal of Contemporary Social Research (JCSR) is published quarterly (four times a year).
Accepted papers will be scheduled for publication in the next available issue.
