THE EFFECT OF HUMAN TRAFFICKING, RELIGIOUS EDUCATION AND SUSTAINABLE VALUE DEVELOPMENT IN NIGERIA

Abstract

Human trafficking has received increase global attention over the past decade. Initially, trafficking of women and girls for forced sex work and, to a lesser extent, domestic servitude, were the sole focus of advocacy and assistance. Today, there is recognition that women, children and men are trafficked into many different forms of labour, and for sexual exploitation. The study aims to delve into the causes and manifestations of human trafficking in Ogun State, Nigeria with a focus on its impact on children and women., effective teaching of religious education is imperative for this war to be won. Religious education is a study of moral teachings and mutual interaction for religious interventions. It is a pivot towards proffering solutions to the menace of human trafficking that seems to have eclipsed the Nigerian nation. Religious education plays an important role in societal related problems in enhancing moral values with the aim of addressing the problem of human trafficking. It was recommended that Religious Studies curriculum should be restructured for effective promotion of human right in the country. All hand must be on deck by making deliberate efforts in propagating Religious Studies education in solving the problem of human trafficking to create a Nigeria of our dream.
