Abstract

The ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict has once again made waves at the United Nations, turning the global stage into a battleground for geopolitical disputes, diplomatic walkouts, and expressions of solidarity. This study dived into the rhetorical, symbolic, and performative aspects of recent UN sessions, where member states presented clashing narratives around legitimacy, sovereignty, and justice. It placed this debate within the larger context of international communication and strategic diplomacy, showing how speeches, gestures, and walkouts served as powerful communicative acts that signal alignment, resistance, or neutrality. Through discourse analysis, the paper explored how Israel's insistence on portraying its military actions as defensive clashes with counter-narratives that highlight humanitarian suffering and the quest for Palestinian self-determination. The carefully orchestrated diplomatic walkouts, especially during Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's speech, reveal the intricate relationship between theater and politics at the UN, exposing fractures in global consensus. At the same time, expressions of solidarity whether through direct support for Israel, vocal advocacy for Palestinian rights, or calls for a ceasefire underscore the fragmentation of international norms and the shifting alliances in a multipolar world. The study posits that these communicative practices do more than just reflect entrenched positions; they actively shape global perceptions, mediate power dynamics, and influence the potential for conflict resolution. Ultimately, the UN was portrayed not as a neutral ground but as a contested space where symbolic communication holds as much significance as policy declarations. By unpacking the geopolitics of walkouts and solidarity statements, the paper sheds light on the strategic communication dynamics that drive contemporary international diplomacy amid ongoing conflict.
